Celebrity Cruises is being sued by a lady and her family for allegedly mishandling her husband's's body after he passed away last year while they were on board. According to the life, the body was left to decompose after they experienced severe emotional stress.
According to the national lawsuit filed in Florida, Robert Jones, Marilyn Jones' 55-year-old husband, passed away from a heart attack on August 15 on board the Celebrity Equinox. His body was kept for about one week inside the walk-in cooler that is typically used for beverages rather than the thoroughly chilled morgue that she was promised.
According to the cause, this caused the body to become swollen and clean, and the household was unable to hold the open-coffin funeral that they had wished for. In damages, Marilyn Jones, her two daughters, and her three grandchildren are suing for$ 1 million.
Celebrity Cruises declined to comment, citing the family's's sensitivity and respect for the case. The Celebrity Equinox, which departs from Fort Lauderdale and cruises the Caribbean year-round, is flagged out of Malta and has a capacity of nearly 3, 000 travellers and 1, 200 team members.
Following Robert Jones' passing, his lady was given two options by team members, according to the lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale.
His brain could be removed at the following stop, Puerto Rico, or kept in the graveyard until the ship returned to Fort Lauderdale in six days, they reportedly told Marilyn Jones, now 78, from the Florida Panhandle. Most large sail boats have a graveyard because customer incidents occasionally occur.
According to the lawsuit, the crowd informed her that if she decided to travel to Puerto Rico, she would have to transport both the individual and herself back to Florida. She was also informed that island officials might need to perform an examination, which might cause their return to be delayed even more.
She chose the graveyard because Jones was by himself. However, according to the cause, that is not where the individual was kept.
A funeral home employee and a Broward County sheriff's's deputy discovered the morgue to be closed when the ship docked in Florida. According to the cause, they discovered the body in a walk-in drink cooler that was bagged up.
Robert Jones' remains were in advanced stages of degradation, and the tank was reportedly considerably warmer than the nearly freezing temperatures required to properly hold a brain.
Celebrities' actions caused the family great trauma because they saw Mr. Jones' horribly decomposed body and realized their husband and father had been blithely and lightly left in a beverage cooler, depriving him of his dignity, according to the lawsuit.
Jones' attorneys are asking for a judge test.
